CSIO - Jumping Competitions

"Aachen is like an Italian opera: There is drama, love, passion and emotion“, equestrian legend Hans Günter Winkler once stated. The jumping riders overtrump each other with superlatives, when asked about the CHIO Aachen. You have to have won in the Soers if you want to be somebody in equestrian sport.

Tuesday, July 13th
Who will hit it off right from the start? The opening jumping competitions are the first chance for the show jumping starts to leave their mark for the rest of the week. Afterwards the official Opening Ceremony of the CHIO Aachen will feature the partner country 2010.

Wednesday, July14th
It has already been one of the emotional highlights since 1960: The WARSTEINER-Prize,
Prize of Europe. On Wednesday, it is one of several thrilling jumping competitions.

Thursday, July 15th
A spine-tingling atmosphere: In the evening, the world’s best jumping nations will compete in the Mercedes-Benz Prize, part of the FEI Nations Cup™. Since the WEG Aachen 2006, also in the course of the CHIO Aachen it has been impressively staged under floodlight. A crowd puller – for more than 80 years now.

Saturday, July 17th
On Saturday, the programme is split into a separate day and evening programme. During the day, the audience can cheer for the competitors of the traditional Prize of AachenMünchener or for the eventing riders when they enter the main stadium for their final cross country round. In the evening, there will be the spectacular hunting competition over ditches and banks, the Prize of Sparkasse.

Sunday, July 18th

Subsequent to that, the emotional Farewell of Nations: With the unique tradition to wave “farewell” to each other with white handkerchiefs. And absolutely everybody joins the waving crowd – the athletes and the guests from all over the world.

CDIO - Dressage Competitions

Wednesday, July 14th to Sunday, July 18th
Elegant piaffes and half-passes, tempo changes and impressive music: The dressage in the Deutsche Bank Stadium is all about the perfect harmony between the riders and their horses. One of the highlights is the Lambertz Nations’ Cup, the CDIO team classification of the world’s best teams, which is decided on Thursday. Will the competitors - above all the Dutch – succeed in catching up to the Germans, who have been the predominant team for decades?
In addition to the evening programmes on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, the MEGGLE Prize, Grand Prix Spécial CDIO on Saturday and especially the Deutsche Bank Prize, the Grand Prix Dressage on Sunday are among the most important competitions for the individual classification.

CICO - Eventing Competitions

Friday, July 16th to Saturday, July 17th
The DHL-Prize, the 3-star eventing competition in Aachen, is one of only three CICO Nations’ Cups worldwide. After the discipline’s big success in the course of the WEG Aachen 2006, Eventing has been included into the CHIO Aachen programme. The DHL-Prize will be staged over two days: After the opening dressage competition in the Deutsche Bank Stadium on Friday, the riders will complete the jumping course in the Main Stadium, where tens of thousands of spectators will cheer the riders on in the arena. However, the final result in the individual and team classifications will only be clear after the third competition on Saturday: The cross country competition with its finishing line inside the Main Stadium. For many athletes
simply “the season’s highlight”.

CAIO - Driving Competitions

Wednesday, July 14th to Sunday, July 18th
When the water splashes up over the obstacles and the coaches with their 4 horsepower speed past just a few metres away, tens of thousands of spectators celebrate a folk festival on the meadows of the Soers. The Marathon course of the four-in-hand drivers is compact and diverse. For the individual and team classifications, the drivers have to accomplish three individual disciplines overall: The dressage and the obstacle competition in the Driving Stadium and the Wohnwelt Pallen Marathon on Saturday. The speed, agility and skill of the horses and drivers is decisive in all driving competitions.

CVIO - Vaulting Competitions

Friday, July 9th to Sunday, July 11th (first CHIO-weekend)
Doing a cartwheel, handstands or jumps – one, two or even three vaulters together – and all of this on top of a horse that is cantering on a circle. Strength, technique, agility and aesthetics as well as moving in harmony with the horse are all attributes that belong to the prerequisites of vaulting.
